Bag Lady Interview: Melinda - From A Retail Buyer Perspective

WHY HOZEN?

I love Hozen because the bags are so functional, trendy and fun. People always comment on them and ask where I got them! Aside from that, I love the cause behind it and I love the styles. My favorite is the silver pinatex belt bag!

DESCRIBE YOUR LOOK.

I've been told by friends my look is 90s chic. I like to pull outfit inspiration from many different places- timeless looks, and yes, I guess 90s inspired. Doesn't necessarily have to be name brand. Overall trying to buy less things. I do love jumpsuits and overalls- anything easy and one piece!

FUN FACT.

Even though I was born in CA, my first language was Portuguese. As a daughter of Portuguese immigrants I didn't learn English until Kindergarten! My second language was Spanish. I grew up in a highly hispanic community so naturally with portuguese and spanish so close I almost learned them both at the same time!

IDEAL DAY?

Waking up, have coffee outside while I check emails or listen to a podcast (if i get up early enough), train into the city for work, meet up with friends for happy hour and dinner.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR DOWN TIME?

Hanging out with friends and family (when we're not in quarantine), cooking, traveling, working out and spending time outside.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I've always been really inspired by small businesses and the people behind them. I would say my parents are one of my biggest inspirations. They immigrated here and started their own business. They are hard working and have always taught me to work hard also.

WHAT'S KEEPING YOU BUSY THESE DAYS?

Side projects, starting a garden, regular walks and facetime with friends and family! Lots of baking, too!

FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD?

Sao Jorge, Azores where my parents are from! It's breathtakingly beautiful and the more I go there the more I learn about my roots and it feels like a second home.

GUILTY PLEASURE?

Binge watching a series or season in one weekend - or one day - oops!
