Bag Lady Interview: Rae - Founder of HOZEN

WHY HOZEN?I wanted to wear accessories that are thoughtfully made with cruelty-free, eco-friendly materials, in a transparent and ethical way – down to every detail. |
DESCRIBE YOUR LOOK.My default is 'prep school boy' but I love the 90s NY look of head-to-toe black, as well as frilly and colorful with bold prints. You can't put me in a box. |
IDEAL DAY?Wake up early to sunshine and warm weather. Run or yoga, do my ritual of tarot and meditation, play with my dog, hang with my husband, get out and explore. |
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR DOWN TIME?Entertain my dog, cook, read, stretch, volunteer at my local dog shelter when I'm in town, create odd projects like darning socks. |
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?Nature thriving. Friends thriving. Happy people doing what they love. |
FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD?It really depends on the day but today it's Mae Chaem, Thailand. I spent two weeks there back in 2015 volunteering at a grass roots elephant sanctuary. It was remote, and hot, and rugged, with no frills and I loved every minute of it. The exposure to those two elephants – tracking them through the jungle during the day, bathing them in the river in the afternoon, followed by hand-feeding them fruits was so far from any reality I had known. Living was not comfortable but it was simple and beautiful. |
GUILTY PLEASURE?The Kardashians |
